Sustainability at NC

Northwestern College is committed to creating a greener and more sustainable campus environment.

Green Graduation Regalia

Northwestern College purchases sustainable graduation regalia for our students. The Green Weaver™ Sustainable gowns made their grand debut at the June 2012 commencement ceremony.

Sustainability Efforts in the Library

In the fall of 2019, the Library joined the NILRC consortium in subscribing to Overdrive for audiobooks and e-books as a group. This gives NC students access to over 4000 titles that can be borrowed electronically, so no overdue fees or returning of materials on time to worry about. Students can download the Libby app to access the Overdrive collection.

The Library has provided access to electronic databases, available 24/7/365 over the Internet, for years. These include ProQuest, EBSCOhost including CINAHL with Full Text, and Issues and Controversies.

The Library will be working in partnership with Baker & Taylor’s Sustainable Shelves program, where materials for discarding will be either sold or recycled by Baker & Taylor, and the Library will receive dollar amount credits that can be used to purchase electronic books.

Northwestern College continues to strive to become a greener and more environmentally conscious organization.
