Vice President of Student Affairs
Barbara has been an educator since 1973. Her career began as a Special Education Teacher for Junior High Children in the Chicago Public School system. She also worked as an adjunct instructor for the City Colleges of Chicago in the Continuing Education department. After leaving CPS she developed and implemented a program of continuing education for disabled adults for the City colleges of Chicago. She was also an instructor for a job rehabilitation program at the Chicago Read Mental Health Center.
Her career with Northwestern College began as an adjunct instructor for Keyboarding and College Success, this position led to a full-time position with the college. When the college opened up the campus in Palos Hills, she transitioned to Administration as the Director of Administration. She maintained this position for many years. Her experience has included accountability for the high school program, career development office, student services, financial aid, the records office, office of counseling and disability services and the library.
She is now the Vice President of Student Affairs and accountable for Student Services, Records, Office of Counseling and Disability Services, Office of Career Development and Alumni Relations and the Library. She has developed customer service standards for these offices and frequently involves the staff in team building workshops. Her endeavors to engage students outside the classroom emerged into a Special Events Committee. This committee provides an opportunity for all departments of the college to be involved in planning special events for our students.
